Deputy Martin Kenny

  • Sinn Fein MEP for this region, Matt Carthy says he hopes those behind a fire attack on the car of a County Leitrim TD are brought to justice.

The apparent attack happened outside the home of his party colleague, TD Martin Kenny at Aughavas, near Ballinamore at around half 2 yesterday morning.

Last week in the Dail Deputy Kenny spoke up in support of a controversial centre for asylum seekers in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses who were in the area between midnight and 3am yesterday to contact them.

MEP Carthy says the community is appalled by the blaze:

  •

  • A Sinn Féin TD is appealing to a community in County Leitrim to co-operate with a Garda investigation into violent attacks.

It follows a suspected petrol-bomb attack, an arson attack and a shooting in Mohill recently.

It's understood the incidents may be linked to drugs.

Deputy Martin Kenny fears there could be a fatality if the trend doesn't stop

  • A Sinn Féin TD has welcomed the proposed changes to the contributory pension being considered by Minister Regina Doherty, which he says will solve the problem of people who are being left short on their pension.

The problem arose following changes in 2012 when contribution averaging was introduced.

This left over 40,000 people nationally on lower pensions because they had breaks in the years they paid stamps.

The Government is now considering returning to some form of total contributions system.

Sligo / Leitrim Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny has been outlining the situation to Midwest News.
