  • Conradh na Gaeilge will meet with government officials today to discuss the decision to postpone all of this summer's Gaeltacht college courses.

    The government announced earlier this week that no Irish language courses will be run in the Gaeltacht this summer, as a result of Covid-19.

    This will impact on a number of Irish-language colleges in Mayo and Galway, and in Gaeltacht areas along the western seaboard.

    Representatives from the Gaeltacht community are now calling for support packages for the summer colleges, teachers and the towns and villages affected.

     The Erris-based TD says the cancellation of the Summer courses has implications for a number of sectors.....

  • A new initiative which will see pupils in St Muredach’s College, Ballina and St Coman’s Wood PS, Roscommon learn the Irish language during PE

     

    It is part of a new pilot being rolled out to 19 Primary and Secondary schools nationwide in an integrated learning scheme for the next three years.

     

    A range of ages will be involved in the pilot, including junior and senior infants, along with pupils in 5th and 6th class.

     

    Only first years will take part in the chosen secondary schools.
