    The crew of Rescue 116 and volunteer coastguard member Caitríona Lucas are being honoured with a People of the Year Award.

    Captains Dara Fitzpatrick and Mark Duffy, and winch team Paul Ormsby and Ciarán Smith lost their lives off the Mayo Coast last year.

    While Caitríona Lucas, died during a search operation off the coast of Kilkee, Co. Clare six months previously.

    Receiving the award today, Search & Rescue Operations Manager, Gerard O'Flynn, hopes today's award shows their families that their loved ones work and dedication is recognised.

  • Unsung heroes will be honoured this evening at an event in the capital.

    The People of the Year Awards take place in the Mansion House in Dublin.

    The event was postponed earlier this year due to Storm Emma.

  • A yacht which had been missing since Saturday off the North West coast has been located safe and well off Achill Island.

    Pilgrim was last last seen North East of Tory Island on Saturday last, but there had been no sighting of the yacht up to yesterday. There is one person on board.

    Ballyglass Coastguard was tasked by Malin Coast Guard to check all the piers and inlets along the Erris Peninsula from Porturlin to Blacksod for a Yacht called "Pilgrim" on Thursday night.

    Yacht Pilgrim has been located safe and well by the CASA (air corp fixed wing aircraft) in a position 80 nm west of Achill Island. The vessel is currently heading south and has indicated all is safe and well. The Irish Coastguard thanked everyone for their assistance in this incident.
