  • Gardai in Mayo seized cannabis herb and plants in two separate searches yesterday in Castlebar and Ballyhaunis.

    The Garda Divisional Task force, under warrant, searched an apartment in Castlebar town and recovered in excess of 750 euro worth of cannabis herb.

    No one arrested in connection with the seizure, but a male in his late 20s in assisting gardai in their investigations.

    While yesterday afternoon in the Ballyhaunis area a house was searched, under warrant, and 9 cannabis plants were seized, with an estimated street value of more than 7,000 euro. In addition 1400 euro worth of cannabis herb was discovered.

    Again, no one has been arrested in connection with this incident but a male in his 30s is assisting gardai in their enquiries.

  • A motorcyclist in his 40s has died following a crash outside Ballyhaunis yesterday afternoon.

    The motorcycle collided with a car on the N83 at Johnstown, between Ballyhaunis and Cloonfad at about 3.30 yesterday afternoon.

    He was airlifted to Galway University Hospital in a critical condition but since passed away.

    A technical examination of the scene was carried out and the road was closed to traffic for some hours, but re-opened again last night.

    GardaĆ­ are appealing for anyone with information who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
