Ballina Swimming Club

  • Last Saturday 27th July and Sunday 28th of July Ballina Swimming Club had 2 swimmers, Eamon Doherty and Luca Duggan take part in the 2019 Irish Summer National Championships which was held in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin.

    With over 960 athletes and 124 clubs taken part from around Ireland and other countries like Canada, Lithuania, Denmark and more...both boys swam in the 100m and 200m backstroke events, swimming the best they have to date both lads achieved two personal best times each.

    Swimming a 1.11.61/1.10.70 consecutively in the 100m event and a 2.38.41/2.35.52 consecutively in the 200m backstroke event.

    Both lads swam out of their skin finishing in great position overall especially this only being Lucas second year attending this meet and Eamon’s first year.

    Eamon and Luca did themselves, family and club proud and deserve the great swimming s they achieved after all their hard work and dedication all year through.

  • Ballina Swimming Club had 3 swimmers qualify and take part in Swim Ireland's Irish National Division 2 competition which took place in the UL Limerick last weekend with 96 clubs and over 870 athletes taking part.

     

    Edwin Rolston qualified for his first time this year swimming in the boys 11-12 year age group in the 50m Freestyle event having a great swim holding his own against a very high standard of competition.

     

     Alannah Canavan qualified to swim in 4 events in her age group (14 years) the 100 backstroke, 200m backstroke, 50m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle having super swims in all 4 events and making finals in both 100 and 200 backstroke events.

     

    Emma Hughes had 6 events over the 4 days swimming in the 200m butterfly, 100m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 400m Freestyle and 200m IM-in the 14yearr age group.

     

     Emma had seriously impressive swims making finals in both 100m Butterfly and 200m Butterfly receiving gold in the 100m fly and silver in the 200m fly.

     

    This is a serious result for this girl who only turned 14 last Sunday, Irish National Winner of 100m Butterfly and 2nd in 200m Butterfly.

     

    Ballina Swimming Club and all its members would like to congratulate these swimmers on such a massive achievement, commitment and hard work all year in paying off and a big well done to Head Coach Andrew Murray and coaches Ken Doherty and Rebecca Rolston for all their work throughout the year.
