Ballina Garda Station

  • Mayo Divisional Drugs Unit together with members from Ballina Garda Station seized €3,000 worth of suspected heroin from a man at Foxford Railway Station on yesterday.

    The drugs were detected as part of an intelligence led operation.

    A man in his 40s who was travelling by train was searched and found in possession of suspected heroin.

    He was arrested by Gardaí at Foxford Railway Station at 4.45pm and detained at Ballina Garda Station.

    He has since been released without charge.

    A file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in this matter.

  • Ballina-based Garda Inspector Mandy Gaynor has been appointed as Superintendent in Carrick-on-Shannon.

    The Dublin native has been a member of An Garda Siochana for 28 years, and has been based in Mayo for over two decades.

    Superintendent Thomas Colsh has been assigned to the Castlerea District.

    Superintendent Ray McMahon who’s a native of Carrick-on-Shannon is taking up a position with the National Roads policing unit at Garda Headquarters.

    His role in Sligo is being filled by former Castlerea Superintendent Goretti Sheridan.

    Inspector Padraic Burke in Roscommon is promoted to Superintendent in Ballymote District in Sligo.

    Roscommon town native Christopher Grogan is also promoted to Superintendent and is appointed to Baltinglass District in Wicklow.
