Aqua park

  • A provider has been secured for the new Aquapark on Lough Conn, Crossmolina.

The new facility is expected to be open  shortly, and it’s hoped will be a major tourism attraction for the region.

The new provider was appointed to the position by Mayo County council earlier this week.

Local Fianna Fail councillor Michael Loftus, believes the new development, which he described as "a bouncing castle and facilities that you might see on land for a party, to be located out in Lough Conn with the appropriate water safety measures", as a great development for the area.

Cllr Loftus has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O'Malley...

  • An application for planning permission for a new aqua park on Lough Conn has been submitted to Mayo County Council.

Splash City Aqua Parks Ltd, the company seeking the permission, is proceeding with its plan to have the facility up and running by August.

However, Fionn O’Carroll of Slash City Aqua Parks Ltd told Midwest News recently about the difficulty the company is having in securing insurance for the development. To date, they've been unable to get a quote from any insurance company or broker.

The planning application seeks permission for an aqua water park play area on the lake at Gortnaraby, Crossmolina to include pontoon/walkway, inflatable water slides, inflatable platforms, inflatable logs and climbing frames.

There will also be prefabricated mobile changing facilities for male and female customers, with a customer desk and wetsuit fitting area.

The aqua park is supported by Mayo County Council and the local authority is investigating if IPB Insurance, the leading insurer in protecting local authorities in Ireland, may be able to assist in securing indemnity for the proposed facility.

This was confirmed to councillors at the May meeting of Ballina Municipal District.
