THE PLAYING OF MUSIC IN CEMETERIES WILL REQUIRE THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF MAYO COUNTY COUNCIL, IF NEW BYE-LAWS ARE ADOPTED.

THE DRAFT BYE-LAWS, WHICH ALSO REGULATE THE SIZE OF HEADSTONES IN CEMETERIES, WERE BEFORE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL’S SPECIAL POLICY COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT AT A MEETING IN CASTLEBAR YESTERDAY.

IF ADOPTED, THE NEW BYE-LAWS WILL MEAN THAT MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CANNOT BE PLAYED AT BURIALS, WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL FROM MAYO COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE PROPOSED BYE-LAWS WILL GO BEFORE MEMBERS OF MAYO COUNTY COUNCIL AT THEIR JUNE MEETING.
