Midwest Radio Scoop Three Awards
Midwest Radio scooped three national awardsat the PPI Radio Awards
ceremony held in Kilkenny last Friday night as over 800 guests
from the radio industry in Ireland celebrated the annual awards event.
The Midwest Radio news team –consisting of Teresa O’Malley,
Paula Donnellan and AngelinaNugent won the award for the best
news programme of the year beating off opposition
from Newstalk, RTE Radio 1 and Today FM to win the coveted title.
In theSpeech broadcaster of the Year category Tommy Marren
won the Silver Award –
beating off such opposition as Ivan Yeats (Newstalk) and Matt Cooper (Today fm)
– to finish just behind the winner Ray D’ Arcy.
In theStation of the Year section Midwest Radio won the bronze award for what the
judges described as an entry that showed how Midwest Radio interacts with its
target audience and how it provides a service that is inclusive and
entertaining.
MidwestRadio’s Managing Director Mr. Paul Claffey said he was thrilled with the
outcome of Friday nights event which sees the national, regional and local
broadcasters vying for awards in what is regarded as the “radio Oscars” in
Irish broadcasting.
“We’rereally delighted with the awards we received.
I’ve consistently said that the quality of the
programmes we produce and the people who produce them is our strongest
asset. I know that our staff have put in
a huge amount of work in putting the various entries together and the fact that
we came away with three national awards is something we can all be very proud of.
