Outgoing Chairman of Galway Football Board survives contest to be re-elected

Outgoing Chairman of Galway Football Board John Joe O’Holloran survived a contest and was re-elected as Chairman of Galway Football Board for a fifth year at the Galway Football Board Convention in Loughgeorge last night. The outgoing Chairman from Clonbur defeated vice chairman Michael Ruane of Monivea/Abbey in a straight contest.

 

There was a packed house at the Football Board venue where Michael Ruane who has been involved as an officer of the Board since 1996 stepped down and Paddy Sweeney of Killanin was elected Vice Chairman.

 

Seamus O’Grady and Milo Costello were re-elected as Secretary and Treasurer with Ian Hynes re- elected as Assistant Secretary and Seamus Connolly of Kilconly elected as Assistant Treasurer.

 

Many tributes were paid to the Galway Under 21 team which captured the All Ireland title during the year. The wonderful work at coaching level was also high-lighted and the meeting was told that the long term future of football in Galway was looking good.
