Replacement called up for the injured Pearce Hanley for second International Rules test
Joe Kernan has called up a replacement for the injured Pearce Hanley for Saturday's second International Rules test with Australia.
Monaghan midfielder Darren Hughes is en route to Australia after the Mayo native was ruled out of the game in Perth with a hand injury.
Ireland trail their hosts by 10-points following Saturday's defeat in Adelaide.
Pearce Hanley’s week of misfortune was completed when he had to leave the field in the first half of the first test because of a fractured bone in his hand. The Mayo man, who plays in the AFL with Gold Coast, had been one of the panel worst affected by the stomach bug that caused such disruption to the team preparations last week.
Sligo’s Niall Murphy and Enda Smith of Roscommon are also laid low by the bug and couldn’t even attend yesterday’s match.
Joe Kernan says they’ll wait and see how they recover during the week before talking about replacements.
