Mayo lose out to Leitrim in Connacht Junior Final
There was no joy for the Mayo juniors last night, as they were beaten in the Connacht Junior final by Leitrim on a score line of 1-16 to 0-16 in Charlestown.
Mayo started brightly and led 4 points to no score after just 8 minutes with former Mayo senior Mark Ronaldson and Moy Davitts Brian Henneghan leading the charge.
At one stage Mayo led by 6 points but then Leitrim took control of the game and scored an unanswered 1 goal and 6 points to lead at half time by a goal.
Mayo again upped the pace in the second half, Ronaldson again on the score sheet with 2 points which left the bare minimum between the teams. But this game was decided when Leitrim scored 6 unanswered points which left the green and red with a mountain to climb.
The effects of playing 3 games in six days told on this Mayo team and although they did manage to get the deficit back to a goal, it is Leitrim who progress to the quarter finals and a meeting with the Munster champions to be played on 22nd of July.
