A motion by the Liam Mellows club in Galway to withdraw from the Leinster championship under their current agreement was carried at last night's county convention.
The club says they want an equivalent Tier one competition in which they can enter their minor and under 21 sides and also play senior games at home.
A motion could be put before congress next February.
Applying for entry to the Munster championship from 2018 onwards is also part of the potential motion.
