Met Eireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for three counties for today.

Mayo, Sligo and Donegal can expect to see heavy showers merge into longer spells of rain. Rainfall of 35mm is expected and the warning is in place until 9pm tonight.

There is also a chance of thunder today according to the forecaster.

Temperatures for today will hover between 6 and 9 degrees Celsius.

Showers will continue into tonight, with an ongoing risk of hail and thunder and sleet on high ground, with temperatures of between 0 to 3 degrees.
