Mayo's John Mountney part of successful Dundalk FC side that won Airtricity League title

Ireland’s PresidentMichael D Higgins was amongst the first to congratulate Dundalk FC on their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title success last night.

Stephen Kenny’s side secured their third title in-a-row courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Bohemians at Oriel Park.

President Higgins, who is an active follower of the League of Ireland, issued a statement soon after describing Dundalk as an “inspiration”.

He said their win means that Dundalk FC now joins Cork United, Waterford and Shamrock Rovers on the list of clubs that have won the League three times in a row.

Bohola native John Mountney was part of the Dundalk side that won the title last night.

A former player with Kiltimagh / Knock Utd, Ballina Town and Mervue Utd, John has been with Dundalk since early 2012.
