Former Roscommon football hero Gerry O’Malley died yesterday.

In a tribute to the St Brigid’s man the county board say he wore the Roscommon jersey with distinction from November 1947 all the way through to 1964.

In 1961 Gerry O’Malley was chosen as the footballer of the year by the Association of Gaelic Sports journalists in a countrywide ballot.

Speaking this morning on Midwest Sport Roscommon GAA County Secretary Brian Caroll paid tribute to Gerry and extended sympathy to his family.
