- Details
The Republic of Ireland men’s team competed in the pairs event at the World Cup of Darts in Turkey yesterday.
Dave O’Connor and Benny Grace defeated 2 top English players Glen Durrant & Jamie Hughes but lost out to 2 Finnish guys in the next round.
David Concannon and Sean McGowan led their 1st match 3-1 but were hauled back and beaten 4-3 by a Dutch pair.
The Ladies played in the singles events, where 3 of our team narrowly lost out 4-3 in the 1st round matches, while Catherine Fleming lost out in the last 32 after some fine performances.
The Rep of Ireland ladies team then competed in the team quarter-final against Denmark and proved too strong for the Danes winning 9-4.
This guarantees both the 4 ladies, the 4 men and their 2 managers a minimum of World Cup bronze medals.
Just underway in the past half hour both the Republic of Ireland Men's team and the Republic of Ireland Ladies team are competing in their respective team semi-finals.
The men play Finland, and the ladies are in action against England.
There was no joy for the youths in the mixed youth's event where, Leah and Brendan qualified from their group but lost out in the last 16 to a Dutch pair.
