Linking the League and the Provincial Championships to a new Champions League style format forms part of the Gaelic Players Association Football Competitions proposal.

The proposal also includes Provincial Championships starting in April and the All-Ireland football final moving back to the first weekend of September with the hurling taking place on the last weekend of August.

The GPA says the new series will provide a serious impetus for inter-county football competition while facilitating an improvement in the club fixture schedule.
