Gearóid McInerney looks set to lose his battle to be fit for Galway's All Ireland semi- final replay with Clare on Sunday.

The half-back has had a scan on a suspected torn calf, and could miss the All Ireland final next month if Galway see off the Banner at the second attempt.

The news on Joe Canning appears to be more positive, with the hurler of the year not suffering any serious damage to his knee despite his withdrawal from the first game.

That replay throws in at 2 o'clock on Sunday in Semple Stadium, with Tipperary's Fergal Horgan appointed referee.
