- Details
With Mayo gripped by World Cup fever as events in Brazil unfold, there is a unique opportunity next Thursday to hear the views on the tournament, and much more, of Ireland’s top football analyst.
Former Ireland captain and manager, John Giles, is heading to Belmullet, on Thursday (June 26) for a Walk of Dreams in aid of the John Giles Foundation which will involve all clubs from the Erris peninsula. Also taking part in the Walk will be the Minister for Sport, Michael Ring, TD,
The Walk of Dreams will start at the Broadhaven Hotel at 8pm and finish there where it will be followed at 9pm by an event that will include a question and answer session with John Giles followed by music.
Admission to the Evening with John Giles is free but donations to the John Giles Foundation will be accepted.
It’s an opportunity to football fans in Mayo to rub shoulders with one of the greats of the game and hear his views on the World Cup and other soccer topics as well as catching a song or two from the former midfield maestro who was voted Ireland’s greatest player by UEFA in 2004.
The John Giles Foundation was set up in 2011 with a vision to create stronger, safer and friendlier communities throughout Ireland; making opportunities a right, not a privilege. Its mission is to facilitate positive social change by using the power of football to build community cohesion, promote health, and encourage lifelong participation and learning. To date it has raised over €500,000 which has been spent on a wide variety of football-related projects.
