The third round of the 2014 Valvoline National Forest Rally Championship took place in the picturesque setting of Glendalough Co. Wicklow on Saturday.

Two Mayo crews made the trip east for the ALMC Motorclub event. Sean McHugh from Bekan had Longford man Cyril Rollins calling the notes in his Subaru Impreza, which they brought home 5th in Class 8 and 41st overall.

Foxford’s Alan Moran once again had Trevor O’Connell on the notes in the Peugeot 206 and after disappointment in earlier rounds of the championship the Mayo pair fared better this time out. Setting the fastest junior time on Stage 3 they survived the gear linkage in the 206 popping off after a jump only two km into the final stage, resulting in the car being stuck in third gear, overcoming this  they went on to finish second in Class 9 and 28th overall. A great result, that shows the potential off the former Mayo & District Motorsport Young Driver Champion.
