PEAMOUNT United and Raheny United played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in an intriguing top of the table clash in the Bus Éireann Women's National League at Morton Stadium today.

These two great rivals could not be separated after an absorbing encounter that leaves champions Peamount leading the division by five points but with Raheny having two games in hand the title run-in will go down to the wire.

After Siobhan Killeen had gone close for the home side, the league's top scorer Sara Lawlor was denied an opener for Peamount by good Katie McCabe defending.

Killeen broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish in the 36th minute after clever build-up play by Rebecca Creagh and that's how it remained at the break.

Lawlor showed her class to fire Peamount level three minutes into second half when it looked like the home defence had the situation under control.

Stephanie Roche created an excellent chance to Lawlor to head her side in front ten minutes later but the striker's header failed to hit the target.

Peamount were handed a golden chance to grab control of the title race with ten minutes left when they were awarded a penalty kick, which was converted by Roche.

However Raheny showed great spirit to level five minutes later when Megan Campbell headed home brilliantly from a corner and neither side was able to carve out a winner.

Elsewhere, Castlebar Celtic maintained their remarkable recent run of away day displays with a third win in four games on the road - they drew the other tie in that run - as they beat Wexford Youths 2-1 at Ferrycarrig Park.

Maria Delahunty had put Wexford in front after just 25 seconds but Youths failed to build on their lead and Celtic were always dangerous on the break with home keeper Mary Rose Kelly twice denying Castlebar striker Emma Mullin.

Five minutes into the second half Celtic were level when Ailbhe Clancy found the net with a strike from the edge of the box then the winner came in the 89th minute when U19 international Emma Hansberry fired home from just outside the box.
