New Connacht rugby coach Pat Lam has arrived in Galway, before taking over his new position at the Sportsground this Summer.

The former Samoan international will take charge of Connacht from June, and has paid tribute to Eric Elwood for allowing him to come in early and observe, until he takes over.

Lam has never been to Galway before, although he has visited Dublin, Cork and Limerick with various teams over the years.

He told today’s Irish Star that he’s looking forward to putting his stamp on Connacht’s style of play.

Lam is currently finalising his squad for  next season, and has been impressed by the talent at his disposal, particularly the indigenous talent.
