Busy weekend of handball ahead

It's another busy weekend on the handball front with all-Ireland Semi-finals in both adult and Juvenile grades.

Crinkle in Co. Offaly is the venue for seven of those underage finals and all Mayo eyes will be on talented Claremorris youngster Niall Joyce who lines out against Fergal Coughlan of Clare in the prestigious Boys Under 16 singles final.

Joyce turned in a courageous display three weeks ago when he defeated the Leinster Champion, Daniel Curry of Wicklow in a thrilling three-match encounter in Galway to reach today's decider. The task awaiting him is far from easy but the victory over the highly-rated Curry only underlines his potential at this level.

Newport duo, Conor Burke and Cormac Moran feature in the final match of the afternoon at the Co. Offaly venue as they take on Cian Donnellan and Ciaran Cooney from Clare in the Boys under 17 Doubles final in a match they are also capable of winning.

Galway also feature in the Boys under 14 doubles decider while Leinster and Munster contest the other four finals. Ballaghaderreen's Amy Corrigan is just one match away from achieving Senior status as she takes on Tyrone's Lisa McAleer in the Ladies Intermediate Singles final at Kells this afternoon while Tom Byrne and Joe Neary feature in Masters Singles finals at Tuamgraney and Mullingar on Sunday.

Paul Brady and Michael Finnegan will be odds on favourites to clinch the all-Ireland Senior Doubles title when they take on Cork contenders, Killian Carroll and Brendan Flemming in the showcase final at O'Loughlin's on Sunday afternoon.
