Weekend's handball results

Mayo Senior duo, Dessie Keegan and Joe McCann suffered a surprisingly heavy defeat to the reigning All-Ireland Champions, Paul Brady and Michael Finnegan of Cavan in the All-Ireland Senior doubles semi-final at O'Loughlin's Kilkenny yesterday afternoon and chalked up just 8 aces in the two games.

Brady and Finnegan now take Killian Carroll and Brendan Fleming from Cork in the final at O'Loughlin's next Saturday.

Club mate Vinnie Moran was desperately unlucky not to land the All-Ireland Men's Over 35 A singles title in a thrilling final against Kerry's Dominic Lynch at Cappagh yesterday.

Moran lost the opening game 21 aces to 16 but rallied well to secure the second by a single ace 21 to 20.

He had his chances in the third when he led 19 -17 but lost out agonisingly 21 aces to 20 to the Kerry man.

There was much better news for Mayo in the second game at the Limerick venue - however - as Kiltimagh youngsters - Maggie Byrne and Dayna Finn - captured the Girls Under 14 Doubles All-Ireland title.

They were well-fancied to fare well and so it proved against Limerick challengers Katie McCarthy and Cathy Foley and were never in trouble as they won the opening game without the lost of a single ace.

They added the second 15 aces to 7 to secure a well-earned first ever all-Ireland title.
