300 entries for Ballinrobe Duathlon tomorrow

With 300 entries and the weather promised good Ballinrobe will be a hive of activity tomorrow, Last years men’s winner Ruaidhri Geraghty Galway Tri is back to defend his title along with a host of other stars.

His main rivals look to be coming from Westport; Brendan Conway , John Lenihan and Tommie Gill all look strong contenders with credential to back it up but the likes of Adventure racer Jonathon Caulfield could up set the apple cart there.

Western Lakes CC will have a team of racers trying to shake it up with Shane Gilligian, Colm Jennings and David Mellett all looking for a piece of the action.

In the ladies race a host of favourites could take the title with a star studded entry; Marie Boyle Spiddel who won the MSAI Adventure Race All Ireland league in 2012 could be a winner but a strong Westport contingent with Aileen Mc Namara and Ann Marie Egan along with runner Caroline Conway and Ballinrobe’s Cathy Mellett will be thinking otherwise.

In the over 40’s, The Land of the Giants winner Noel Brady will be out to claim the title but a strong and slim looking Noel Gibbons Partry along with Jimmy Lawlor Westport will push him hard.

In the ladies, Kathleen Barry who won the Ladies overall at the Land of the Giants looks strongest to take the O40’s title not unless she places in the Ladies overall, in that case Ann Fahy Ronayne Irishtown will take the crown.

The race is not just for the elite racers, there are a host of newbies having a go at their first Duathlon and just finishing it is the main Goal for them.

With all the action happening in Abbey st from 10am, the music and commentaries will surely spring life into the area.
