History was made in Athlone yesterday with the opening of the new Olympic Standard Stadium.

Patrick Moran from Shrule representing Mayo AC took 5^th place overall in the Master Combined Events on a score of 1618 points.

The winner of the event was David Courtney on 1888 points from Ennis Track Club, 2^nd was Peadar McGing from Dundrum Club on 1863 points, 3^rd place went to Liam Lyster of Crusaders Club on 1808 and 4^th place to Pat Power of St Joseph’s in Wicklow on 1697 points.

There were great reports about the stadium in Athlone, which is the first of its kind in Ireland and is fully heated.
