What was described as a “flawed” litter report published by IBAL some months ago has delayed the setting up by the multinational pharmaceutical company Northgate in Castlebar creating 150 new jobs.

That was the stark revelation made by Fine Gael town councillor Ger Deere at last night’s monthly meeting of the authority.

Councillor Ger Deere said the “flawed” Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) report had been unfavourable about the county town and the Board of Directors of Northgate considered the report and were concerned about what it might mean as they set up a significant new plant.

A flawed report he claimed put jobs in jeopardy.

The local authority had some months ago rejected the accuracy of the IBAL report published late year on Castlebar, saying it directly contradicted the points secured by the county town in the national Tidy Towns competition.

Northgate has not yet announced where in Castlebar it intends to set up its plant.
