Civil case brought by contractor against Galway Senator and her husband continues today

THE CIVIL case brought by a contractor against Galway Fine Gael Senator Fidelma Healy Eames and her husband has been adjourned until today, to allow a further two witnesses to give evidence on their behalf.

Tradesman Michael Allen has brought this civil case against the senator and her husband, claiming he was paid only €13,000 of the €28,840 he quoted for plumbing and heating works before he was taken off the job at their home in Oranmore, in 2009.

Mr Allen told the Galway Circuit Court yesterday that Senator Healy-Eames had been anxious to have their garage turned into offices for Fine Gael, but his work was suspended on the project after a few days.

The Senator’s husband Michael Eames denied claims that the work on the garage beside their home was for a Fine Gael office, and insisted it was only to be used to store files relating to his farm.

Mr Allen claims he is owed in the region of 22,000 euro in outstanding fees.

A number of other disputes also arose between the parties during the course of the case – in relation to the price agreed for the work, what work fell under Mr Allen’s remit, and whether he had been thrown-off the job or walked off.

The case continues today before Judge Rory McCabe.
