Ballina councillor claims roadside strawberry stalls are unfair and potentially dangerous

A Ballina councillor claims it’s unfair and potentially dangerous that strawberry stalls are being allowed to set up along the sides of main roads, and not have to pay any permit or trading licence fee to anyone.

Independent Councillor Mary Kelly raised the matter at this month’s Ballina Town Council meeting, where she sought clarification from council management as to why this practice is allowed, while anyone trading at the Farmers Market in Ballina, one day per week, pays a fee to the local authority – or those trading in the Market Square pay a fee for a trading permit.

Councillor Kelly believes its unfair to the ratepayers of the county
