Taoiseach heartened by numbers registering for household charge

An estimated total of over 735 thousand properties have now been registered for the household charge - as of the figures taken from around 4.30pm this afternoon.
This includes new rough tallies from local authorities of almost sixty thousand registrations on hand in offices around the country.
The Taoiseach says he's "heartened" by these numbers - however just under a million households have yet to pay the 100 euro before a deadline of midnight tonight.
