Headford Councillor Calls on Minister Reilly to recruit Nurses as Overcrowding Continues at A and E in UHG

The crisis in overcrowding in the Accident and Emergency Unit of University Hospital Galway is continuing, with the INMO reporting that 30 patients were on trollies again at the hospital yesterday and a full protocol situation had to be put into operation.
This means that patients on trolleys were distributed across the wards of the hospital in an effort to deal with the demands.
This is despite the Special delivery unit that was set up in the hospital at the end of last year by Minister Reilly specifically to deal with the ongoing overcrowding problem.
This morning Headford Based Fianna Fail councillor Mary Hoade told Midwest News that it’s worrying to see such high levels of overcrowding at the hospital’s emergency dept at this time of the year.
She has again called on Minister Reilly to lift the ban on recruitment of staff in the Public Service, saying additional frontline staff are required in Galway to deal with patient demand.
