Angler Who Died on Lough Corrib to be Laid to Rest Today

The funeral of an angler who drowned on a fishing expedition on Lough Corrib on Monday last, takes place today.

Family and friends gathered last night to pay respects to 53 years old Michael Ruane, from Devon Park in Salthill, Galway, when his remains were brought to Salthill Church.

The mourners were led by his wife Marie, mother Bridget, and sister Rita.

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board has begun an inquiry into his death.

While Mr Ruane had been wearing a life jacket, he became separated from it when he was thrown into the water after a wave hit his boat. A probe will establish if the life jacket was faulty.
