Kilkenny GAA player who died of suspected Sudden Adult Death syndrome is son of Mayo woman

A young GAA player from Kilkenny, who died of suspected Sudden Adult Death syndrome over the weekend, is the son of a Mayo woman.

26-year old Adrian Harkin, who played football and hurling with James Stephens GAA club in Kilkenny, died of a suspected heart attack on Saturday.

Adrian’s mother Mary, nee Duffy is a native of Carracastle, near Charlestown.

She and her husband Syd own a pub in Kilkenny city.

While the results of a post-mortem examination are awaited, it’s believed Adrian Harkin is the latest in a series of sportspeople suspected to have died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

His funeral mass will take place tomorrow in Kilkenny.
