Four people appear in court charged in connection with incident outside St Mary's Church Ballinrobe

Four people have been remanded in custody after they appeared before a special sitting of the courts in Galway yesterday evening.
The four people were arrested yesterday in connection with an incident that happened in the grounds of St Mary’s Church in Ballinrobe on Tuesday last, while more than 90 children were being confirmed. The arrests came after a planned Garda search in the early hours of Friday morning in the Ballinrobe area.
An incident broke out between two opposing groups at the front of the Church grounds and it was reported that some people were carrying implements. Gardai were quickly on the scene. One man sustained what have been described as minor injuries and another man was arrested on Tuesday.
Garda Superintendent Joe Doherty told Midwest News that four people appeared before a special sitting of the courts in Galway yesterday evening on public order offence charges and one charge under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act. The four were remanded in custody by Judge Geoffrey Brown to Castlerea prison and will appear in court again next Friday.
