Councillor Kenny Says Good News on Funding for Turlough Bridge Expected Soon
- Details
The ongoing closure, for three years now, of a public road in the village of Turlough, outside Castlebar, continues to be a cause of local concern and growing frustration.
The road is closed to traffic because of a bridge along the road that has gone into disrepair and the price tag to repair it is 200,000 euro and Mayo county council officials says there has been no money provided from central government to repair it.
For years now a delegation from the Turlough / Parke community attend the Castlebar Local Area Meetings of Mayo county council to maintain pressure on the authority to address the problem – the delegation was again in attendance at yesterday’s meeting of the authority.
A little hope came on the horizon yesterday after a lengthy debate on the issue.
Fine Gael councillor Henry Kenny said that he had raised the matter with the Taoiseach and the relevant Minister and said the Taoiseach is well informed on the problem and the councillor expects to hear good news on the funding soon.
