Severe Shortage of Substitute Teachers in Primary Schools, according to IPPN

There is a severe shortage of substitute teachers in Irish primary schools at present, according to the CEO of the Irish Primary Principals' Network (IPPN) Pairic Clerkin.

Recent surveys by the network, showed up to 36% of schools were unable to source a substitute teacher on ten or more occasions since September.

Pay equalisation for newly graduated teachers and efforts to keep graduate teachers  in the country are among the issues that need to be addressed by government, according to the IPPN

Pairic has been telling Midwest News about the present situation regularly facing staff and students in primary classrooms.
