Bishop Brendan Kelly appointed new Bishop of Galway

Brendan Kelly has been appointed Bishop of Galway, and says “it’s good to be coming home”.

He is currently serving as Bishop of Achonry.

Pope Francis announced the new appointment in Rome this morning.

71-year old Bishop Kelly is a native of Derrybrien in Co Galway.

He succeeds Bishop Martin Drennan, who retired as Bishop of Galway in July 2016.
