Homes in Mayo damaged by pyrite in the blockwork should be exempt from paying Local Property Tax

Homes in Mayo that have been damaged by pyrite in the blockwork should be exempt from paying the Local Property Tax.

That’s according to Mayo FG Senator Michelle Mulherin, who’s raised the issue in the Seanad this week.

Homes in Leinster that are deteriorating due to pyrite are already exempt from the Local Property Tax, and that now needs to be extended to over 300 homes in Co Mayo with substantial structural damage as a result of pyrite.

Senator Mulherin says she received a commitment from the Minister that this would be considered as part of a review of Local Property Tax next year.

She says she will continue to seek this exemption for the Mayo homeowners affected - as well as a compensation scheme.
