Motorists urged to take extra caution on roads with snow & ice forecast

Motorists are being warned to take extra care on the roads over the next 24 hours, as there's a risk of snow and ice.

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow snow & ice warning for the whole country from 4pm today until 4pm tomorrow, with up to 3cm of snow expected in some areas.

Scattered snow showers can be expected this evening, tonight and into tomorrow, while strong winds are also hitting the Western seaboard.

The Road Safety Authority is reminding drivers to clear windows and mirrors before setting off, and to carry a scraper and de-icer.

Motorists should brake gently and leave plenty of distance from the vehicle in front, as stopping distances are 10 times longer in ice and snow.
