90 percent of households will receive their water charges refund by Christmas.
Irish Water says 100,000 customers have been contacted this week by email and a further 30,000 by text with a view to processing their money.
The company says its reliant on customers providing correct details to ensure cheques are sent to the right address.
Almost 19,000 people nationwide need to provide additional details and there are also a number of people who have moved and not yet notified the company who need to update their details.
Meanwhile, the issue of those on group water schemes still having to pay for domestic water was raised at a meeting today between Mayo FG Senator Michelle Mulherin and Minister Eoghan Murphy.
Senator Mulherin says it’s unfair that those in rural areas and on group schemes are continuing to pay for domestic water, while those on public schemes no longer do so, but she’s hoping for progress in the near future to ensure fairness between urban and rural areas….
