A fodder aid package is needed before Christmas to help farmers deal with an escalating situation, which has reached crisis point on many farms across the West & Northwest.
That’s according to Colm O’Donnell, President of the Irish Natura & Hill Farmers Association.
With cattle housed since late August, he claims many farmers will have all their fodder used by Christmas which means that action is needed now to assist these farmers.
The INHFA is holding a national public meeting in the Sligo Southern Hotel on Friday 1st December at 8pm, to highlight the need for a fodder aid scheme.
Meanwhile, the fodder crisis facing farmers in the West & Northwest is being raised in the Dail this evening by Mayo TD Dara Calleary and a group of Fianna Fail deputies on the Topical Issues debate.
They will be outlining the hardship many farms are facing, following a very wet Summer and Autumn, and will be calling on the Agriculture Minister Michael Creed to bring forward a fodder aid scheme for those affected.
