50 Year Old Ballinasloe Man Fatally Injured in County Roscommon Crash

The man who was fatally injured in a collision between a car and a bus in county Roscommon yesterday morning has been named locally as Thomas Campbell, a businessman from Ballinasloe, County Galway.

He was the driver of the car and aged in his 50s.

Five people were taken to hospital following the collision, including a 11-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car.

The driver of the bus and three bus passengers were also taken to hospital.

The crash happened on the R446, the old road between Athlone and Ballinasloe, at Ballydangan. It involved the Mercedes car and large bus and occurred shortly after 10am.

The injured girl was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

The injured bus driver and bus passengers were also taken to Portiuncula Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Nine other passengers on the bus escaped injury.
