Westport and Tuam Post Offices are about to change from being An Post run offices to being run by contractors.

95 percent of Post Offices nationally are run by private contractors.

The changes in Westport and Tuam come on line as An Post announced changes in the running of its Post Office services at seven locations nationally.

A number of listeners to Midwest News had expressed concern about the change, fearing that both post offices may be downgraded as a result, and that jobs may be lost.

Angus Laverty Public Relations Manager for An Post insists there is no downgrading of either Westport or Tuam Post Offices with the change.

He told Midwest News today that under the new arrangement there should be no significant impact on staff numbers.
