20% Drop in New Car Sales in Mayo So Far this Year Over Last
- Details

There’s been an almost 20 percent drop in the number of new cars registered in Co Mayo in the first ten months of this year, compared to the same period last year.
New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show 2,263 new cars were sold in Mayo between January and October, compared to 2,800 in the first ten months of 2016.
Across the region, new car registrations have fallen by over 15% in Galway and Roscommon and by almost 13% in Sligo.
Nationally, the number of new car registrations is down over 10%.
Economist Jim Power, author of the report, says the surge in used imports from the UK is impacting on the sale of new cars.
