88% of Mayo population are Catholic, according to CSO census breakdown

88% of people in Co Mayo are Catholic, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO breakdown of the 2016 Census show Co Offaly has the highest number of people who say they're Catholic, with 88.8 percent while Dun Laoighare-Rathdown has the fewest with just less than 70%.

The number of Muslim people in Ireland increased by almost 29% to over 63,000.

In Mayo, Catholicism is still the most popular religion by far, with 88% support.

2% are Church of Ireland, 1% Muslim, other religions 3%, and 6% in Mayo claim to have no religion.
