Councillor Concerned Castlebar New Swimming Pool is 12 Months Behind Schedule

The new swimming pool in Castlebar is 12 months behind schedule and construction will not be completed until the middle of next year.

That has been confirmed by Director of Services for Mayo county council Tom Gilligan in a report prepared for councillors ahead of this week’s monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.

The new 25 metre, 11 million euro pool, is under construction at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar.

Mr Gilligan said weather had hampered progress on the construction.

Independent Castlebar councillor Michael Kilcoyne told Midwest News today that weather is not a satisfactory response to explain the delay.

He expressed concern about the project, announced almost 5 years ago.
