Toghermore House in Tuam must not be allowed to fall into disrepair

Toghermore House in Tuam, a mental Health facility, which the HSE west has invested over 20 million euro over the past three years, must not be allowed to close its gate and fall into disrepair as the residents of the facility are being relocated to new residential facilities, in accordance with the latest mental health policy. That’s the view of Tuam based Fianna Fail councillor Donagh Killilea, a member of the HSE West Forum.

At this week’s monthly meeting of the HSE West Forum the councillor asked HSE management about the plans for the future of the significant property and its remaining residents.

In response, Chief Officer Tony Canavan said the remaining residents of the house will be transitioning to more suitable accommodation in Tuam in the medium to long term. He explained that three properties are in the process of being sourced by the HSE in Tuam for the residents.

Councillor Killilea spoke to Midwest News about his concerns that the Toghermore House facility may become unoccupied and fall into disrepair.
