Elderly people "as well off writing to Santa" as expecting HSE to provide home-help, says Castlebar councillor

The number of elderly people in Co Mayo who have qualified for homecare packages, but are not yet getting any home help, has now reached 142.
60 of these are aged between 80 and 90, and 20 are over the age of 90.
The figures were confirmed at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the HSE Regional Forum in Galway, where Castlebar-based Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne asked for clarification on the issue.
He said people are as well off writing to Santa Claus for home help, as waiting for the HSE to provide the resources.
