Mayo councillors impress on TII the need to reduce speed limit at Ardboley, Balla and at Breaffy
- Details

The need to lower the speed limits at Breaffy outside Castlebar and at Ardboley Junction near Balla were highlighted yesterday at a meeting between Mayo County Council representatives and TII – Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Local residents are campaigning for a reduced speed limit at Ardboley Junction, on the Claremorris side of Balla village, where a number of collisions have occurred.
While TII – formerly the National Roads Authority – is reluctant to reduce the speed limit at this location, the agency agreed yesterday to fund a feasibility study, which will examine further engineering works that would increase safety at this location.
That’s according to Castlebar-based FG Councillor Cyril Burke.
Councillor Burke says he and his colleagues also impressed on TII officials the need to reduce speed through Breaffy village on the outskirts of Castlebar, where a number of serious and fatal collisions have occurred in recent years.
